Move OSX Dock and Menu Bar on External Display

Most developers and coder are using external display monitor to gain better view and enhance multitasking flexibilities at work. It’s very common now and some developer even have dual external display monitors, which get greater multitasking.

How to display or move the Dock and Menu bar to external display monitor as the main display on apple mac os x?

By default, OS X docking is located at the bottom of the screen, if can be changed to locate it on top, left or right of the display by user’s preference. If you want to extend docking and menu bar to external monitor as main display, here is the configuration via Mac OS X System Preferences.

Go to System Preferences > Display, as the picture shown below

Select Arrangement, you can see the white bar on top at the displays, simply move it left or right to difference display/monitor.

Enable Display setting at menu bar to configure it at few clicks away. At Display preference, check “Show displays in menu bar”

On menu bar you will see a “screen” icon, click on it and get faster access to Display Preferences
